Nope - it isn't root beer! But it is delicious!!!

ROOT is a bourbon-like drink that is the creation of the very talented group Art in the Age.  Marketed as the "First truly authentic American liqueur since the Pre-Prohibition Era", this stuff will really knock your socks off. (Read the full history here). Root is made from all organic ingredients (like birch bark, sassafras and nutmeg) - so stock up for the Holidays. You can go to their site and check out their bar locator (pretty handy!) OR check out some awesome recipes here.  I enjoy it in some warm drinking chocolate!!!

Positive Graffiti

A couple of days ago I noticed some really bad Graffiti on my way to work, and it got me thinking about all the really positive impacts that street art can have on a community. On the news the other day I ran across this sweet example of graffiti that can uplift a community. (Or at least make me smile)

 

Not only do I think these images look really cool, and are neat ideas, most of this kind of art is anonymous. I love the idea of making art for "art sake" not for personal gain or recognition. here are a few more images that I stumbled upon.

Each day thousands of baristas create beautiful art-work. I'm not talking about a cup of freshly brewed coffee, I'm talking about when your coffee is the art and the art is your coffee. I know it sounds complicated, but trust me after you see what some of these talented folks have been able to come with you will understand. Art in my Coffee, It is basically about sharing your barista's art with the world. Here are some of my favorites.

 

  

I love cheese!

Who doesn't? Check out this AMAZING cheese themed party styled by our friends Beka and Kimberly of Innove Events featured on Style Me Pretty today.   I love the ranunculus and whole artichokes gracing the table Luck guest this little soirée received an orchard basket filled with cheese, olives, marcona almonds, and baguette.  Looks like I will need to find an excuse to have a party!

Tasty National Flags

Being that I love all things food and design, these national flags definitely caught my attention!  Each flag was re-created with food that comes from each country or food that each country is known for.

garden party bridal shower

Ah, my sister's bridal shower is on Saturday and while I'm very excited about seeing family and friends, I'm not excited about all the last minute running around I have to do! The theme of the party is a whimsy "Alice in Wonderland" garden tea party. We are having each of the guests bring an antique teacup and saucer for Maliya, my sister, to start a collection of her own. The teacup I picked out looks very much like the bottom one in the stack. 

As part of the garden theme, I decided to make cute, little "bug" tea cakes as favors for the guests. I used this backyard bug pan from the martha stewart collection.

After six hours of baking with an awesome lemon poppy seed recipe, here's the finished product. They were just brushed with a yummy lemon glaze.

I have to send out a huge thank you to my husband for helping me with all the baking. Kudos, Brian, you rock! I'll post the pictures from the shower next week!

love/hate with coffee

I love coffee way too much. I have a cup every morning. I try to make it at home before I leave for work, but lately I have been getting up a little late and getting coffee on my way in to work. So my trash is filling up with empty coffee cups (I know I should just grab a thermos and have them fill it, but I'm already running late!) not to mention my bank account is draining with every $3 dollar purchase.

I have decided it is time to bring in my French Press to work. I love the idea of saving money and the environment. and BONUS - I found this great French press cozy to help keep my coffee warm all day!
