Tugboat Printshop out of Pittsburgh, Pa., is a two-person shop, run by Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth. It is certainly not your everyday shop. Tugboat specializes in precise woodcuts, which are a form of relief printing where the artist carves an image or scene into a block of wood. The attention to detail, the time and patience put into these prints is absolutely incredible. I cannot imagine what these look like in person.

2010 Studio On Fire Letterpress Calendar

Studio on Fire did it again, and did it right. They are celebrating their 10th year in the business with this top-notch calendar for 2010. This four color piece contains illustrations from various designers. I will let the images do the rest of the talking.

Alberto Cerriteño and "The Enamored Whale"

Alberto Cerriteño has been one of my favorite illustrators for some time. About a year ago was when I first discovered Alberto’s “The Enamored Whale.” It is a great illustration, and highly detailed. This past fall, he decided to take this early illustration to the next level. Studio Olivine was given the opportunity to produce a limited edition print of Cerriteño's design.

This 8.5”x11” 3 color print has some insane detail. Unfortunately they have sold out on Etsy, but make sure to check out Alberto’s blog to see the process of this print as it came to life.

Fred Lebain is a very talented photographer from Paris I stumbled upon while on ffffound.com. He has been around for a little while, but one of his most recent projects really caught my eye. This past year he took a series of photos in NYC in various, everyday locations. He then printed these photos on a large format printer, and later revisited each spot for a second shot. In each photo you actually get to see two different shots, which I found very interesting. I also love how you can see hands, feet, or tripods in almost every picture.

a love letter for you

Graffiti artist Steve Powers, partnered with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, recently completed an incredible project here in Philadelphia. “Love Letter” was an idea Powers thought up a while back, but it wasn’t until last year that it actually came to life.

Around 40 artists from around the world (including a handful from Philly) worked on 50 wall murals in West Philadelphia. This project is actually a scavenger hunt because you can only view the murals if you ride the Market Street El. You can find painted walls going both westbound and eastbound between 46th Street and 63rd Street.
