Jewelery for Typography Lovers

I found an amazing jewelry maker on Friday's post on Swiss Miss, and it reminded me of some other typography-inspired accessories I've seen.

Littlefly explains his process better than I could, so here it is in his own words:

"Paper is many things: a carrier of text, illustration, history and emotion.

Jeremy May has captured the beauty of paper via a unique laminating process. Littlefly jewelery is made by laminating hundreds sheets of paper together, then carefully finishing to a high gloss. The paper is selected and carefully removed from a book, and the jewelry re-inserted in the excavated space.

Each piece is impossible to replicate, and is unique to the  wearer. The beauty of the jewels extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way though the object, only exposed at the surfaces – giving a tantalizing glimpse of the book within."

Positive Graffiti

A couple of days ago I noticed some really bad Graffiti on my way to work, and it got me thinking about all the really positive impacts that street art can have on a community. On the news the other day I ran across this sweet example of graffiti that can uplift a community. (Or at least make me smile)

 

Not only do I think these images look really cool, and are neat ideas, most of this kind of art is anonymous. I love the idea of making art for "art sake" not for personal gain or recognition. here are a few more images that I stumbled upon.

Beach-themed Duds for Little Dudes!

Lately, It seems like everywhere I turn, there is another "bun" in someone's oven, whether it's a new baby announcement being designed at Two Paperdolls or a pregnancy announcement in my Facebook news feed! What does this mean? It's time to go shopping! I have always been a sucker for surfer clothes for little kids, and I'm always buying beachy duds for the little ones in my life.

I came across some awesome designs coupled with an amazing deal today and couldn't pass up sharing it with all of you. We all know new parents who would love these for their kiddos, right?

QR Code Business Cards

A QR Code is an arrangement of squares that create a form of barcode. They are readable by taking a picture of it with your smartphone, such as an iPhone. It immediately takes you to some sort of website. Brad from 23rd & 5th came to us asking to print one on the backside of their cards, which takes you to a certain page on their site. At first I did not know if it would work, and thought the impression might throw off the code, but it didn't. It worked like a champ. I never thought I would be testing prints as they came off the press by scanning a QR code with my phone. It is the future, and I cannot imagine what will come out next.

 

30th Birthday Invitations

Aside from wedding and mitzvah invitations, we have been getting quite a few requests for birthday invitations this summer!  Whether you are throwing a Surprise 70th for your father or planning a Girls Night Out for your sister's 40th - we have some great ideas to share! Check out this fresh color scheme of honeydew and persimmon that we used for our friend Alison Conklin's birthday invitation.  Aside from the custom stamp, (always a favorite of mine) the invitation featured a black satin pull tab and ribbon band detail secured with a "30" sticker. The whimsical font chosen set the tone for this fun gathering at the melting pot! YUMM!

Maptote

I have long been a fan of Maptote and own a few of their Totes myself. My favorite is the Philadelphia Wine tote (go figure) and I am constantly asked where I got them! I recently purchased their Manhattan and Miami onesies for a couple of my friends' babies and was bombarded with emails asking where I got them. They are an instant shower hit! Take a look and see if they have a city for one of your favorite totes. Maybe even a tote for yourself, while you're at it.

Being the film geek around these parts, I sometimes find myself writing scripts based on real life. After all, what is more true than actual life? But! What is more fun than animation?! I've discovered www.xtranormal.com; which lets you create a world of your own. You control the dialogue, the ambiance, the little sounds in the background and anything else you can conjure up.  

With an easy step by step panel to help you bring your creation to life, you'll be cracking up in no time. Xtranormal even lets you pick the voice for your character. You'll find that it's quite the clever spin on spoofing friends, family & even co-workers. Try it out for yourself and see. I'm personally addicted now. :)
